Notice on Changes to Disaster Warning Levels
August 14, 2026
New alert levels for better evacuation preparedness
In Japan, the alert system for disaster situations has been restructured into five levels to help residents, including foreign nationals, understand evacuation procedures more intuitively. This change has been in effect since May 2021. It is recommended that everyone evacuates from dangerous areas at level 4 warning. It is important to regularly check local alert information and be prepared. Please refer to official disaster prevention websites and local municipal announcements for detailed evacuation procedures and the latest safety information.
