The Japanese government updates rules for foreign real estate acquisition.
The Japanese government has announced changes to the rules for foreign acquisitions of real estate. From the 2024 fiscal year, applicants must include their nationality in the application documents. This rule also applies to individuals newly owning forest land or under specific laws, where the nationality of company representatives must be reported. Non-resident foreign acquisitions must be reported even if not for investment purposes. These changes affect foreigners wishing to buy real estate in Japan.
