Tochigi Prefecture Launches Solar Power Support Program for Private Homes in 2026

September 24, 2026
From May to October 2026, Tochigi Prefecture offers financial support to individuals installing solar power systems with batteries in their homes. Foreign residents living in Japan are eligible, with applications accepted until budget runs out.

Starting May 11, 2026, until October 30, 2026, Tochigi Prefecture will provide subsidies to individuals installing new solar power equipment and storage batteries together in their homes located within the prefecture. The program aims to help reduce living costs by encouraging self-consumption of renewable energy. Residents including foreign nationals living in Tochigi can apply if they own or live in a house there. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis but will end once the budget is exceeded. If multiple applications arrive on the final acceptance day, winners will be selected by lottery. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Applications must be sent by mail with delivery confirmation; hand delivery is not accepted. The subsidy covers 70,000 yen per kilowatt for solar panels and one-third of eligible costs for batteries, each with maximum limits. It takes about 1-2 months to decide on subsidy approval, and installation work must start after approval.
