Gunma Prefecture’s Certification System for Pharmacies with Special Functions

October 2, 2026
Since August 1, 2021, Gunma Prefecture has started a certification system for pharmacies with special functions that collaborate with local and specialized medical institutions. Foreign residents in Japan can safely use these certified pharmacies.

Gunma Prefecture has introduced a certification system to help patients choose the right pharmacies. The prefectural governor certifies two types of pharmacies: Community Cooperation Pharmacies and Specialized Medical Cooperation Pharmacies. Community Cooperation Pharmacies share medication information with hospitals and other medical providers and offer services during nights and holidays. Specialized Medical Cooperation Pharmacies provide advanced pharmaceutical care for patients needing expert treatment, like cancer care. This system began on August 1, 2021, and many pharmacies have already been certified. For detailed procedures and certification requirements, please check the official Gunma Prefecture website. This system helps foreign residents in Japan to access reliable and specialized pharmacy services nearby.
