Medical Visits During the Heavy Rain Disaster from August 13, 2026

August 12, 2026
From August 13, 2026, people affected by heavy rain disasters can visit medical institutions without their My Number health insurance card. This applies to residents in disaster areas, including foreign nationals living in Japan.

The Japan Health Insurance Association announced that due to heavy rain starting August 13, 2026, victims can receive medical treatment even if they lost or did not bring their My Number health insurance card or qualification certificate. At the medical facility, patients only need to provide their name, date of birth, contact information, and employer’s name to receive care. This applies only in municipalities where the Disaster Relief Act is in force. Check the Cabinet Office website for affected areas. Also, postal deliveries may be delayed due to the disaster, so documents sent or received by the association may take more time. Please check official websites for the latest information.
