Blue Light-Up at Yamaguchi Prefectural Archives for Sign Language Day

September 10, 2026
Yamaguchi Prefecture will light up its Prefectural Archives in blue from September 17 to 23 to mark International Day of Sign Languages and Sign Language Day, promoting awareness and use of sign language.

Yamaguchi Prefecture will illuminate the Prefectural Archives building in blue from Thursday, September 17, to Wednesday, September 23, 2026, between 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM daily. This event celebrates the International Day of Sign Languages and Japan’s Sign Language Day.

The International Day of Sign Languages was established by the United Nations on December 19, 2017, recognizing sign language as equal to spoken languages and promoting the human rights of deaf people. Japan’s Sign Language Day, set on September 23, was legally established by the Sign Language Policy Promotion Act enforced in June 2025.

Foreign residents in Japan can learn about sign language culture through this lighting event, supporting better communication and understanding in the community. For exact details, check official Yamaguchi Prefecture announcements.
