Special Medical Insurance Procedures for Rainfall Disaster from August 27, 2026 in Toyama and Ishikawa
From August 27, 2026, heavy rain caused disasters in parts of Toyama and Ishikawa prefectures. These areas are declared under the Disaster Relief Act. Because some people have lost their My Number health insurance cards or left them at home when evacuating, the Japan Health Insurance Association announced a special rule. People affected can visit medical institutions and receive treatment with their health insurance, even without showing the My Number card. They must tell the staff their name, date of birth, contact number (such as a phone number), and workplace name. This rule applies to all patients in the disaster areas. The list of eligible municipalities can be checked on the Cabinet Office website. This special procedure started on August 27, 2026. Please check the Japan Health Insurance Association official website for details and updates.
