Magnetic Storm of 1859 In 1859, a massive magnetic storm occurred globally. On September 2nd, auroras were observed in Japan and many other regions. This was caused by solar activity, and at a time when communication technology was undeveloped, it caused surges in telegraph lines, leading to considerable disruption. This event underscores the importance of space weather forecasting even today.

Typhoon of 1899 In 1899, a typhoon struck Kochi Prefecture, causing severe damage particularly in the Shikoku region and the neighboring Okayama and Hyogo Prefectures. The Besshi floods in Ehime Prefecture claimed over 513 lives. Increasing disaster awareness to mitigate typhoon damage remains a current challenge in Japan.

Allied Forces Land in 1945 In 1945, the advance party of Allied forces landed at Atsugi Base, establishing the GHQ headquarters in Yokohama City.
