Tax Filing for 2026 Made Easier with Smartphone and My Number Portal
The National Tax Agency revealed that for the 2026 income tax filing, the feature allowing smartphones to link with the My Number Portal has been expanded. This allows users to automatically import data such as salary information, medical expenses, and hometown tax donations into their tax return forms.
This service requires a My Number card and a compatible smartphone. Foreign residents in Japan can benefit from this to simplify their tax filing process. The number of people who can automatically input their salary withholding slips will increase significantly.
Starting January 2027, the scope of salary information linked through the My Number Portal will expand further. However, first-time users need to prepare in advance.
Please check the validity of your My Number card and electronic certificate, and update to the newest My Number app before use.
