Enjoy Grilled Ayu Fish at a BBQ Event in Gifu

Gifu Prefecture will hold an event on September 12 where visitors can experience grilling Ayu fish using BBQ grills. The experience is held four times with a maximum of 20 participants per session. It is a good chance for foreigners living in Japan to enjoy local culture.

Gifu Prefecture and the group promoting the Ayu fish from the Nagara River, a World Agricultural Heritage site, are holding an event to increase awareness and consumption of Ayu. The event will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the outdoor area in front of Himalaya Outdoor Gifu store in Gifu City. The event includes hands-on experiences of grilling salted Ayu and cooking with rice cookers, teaching participants how to skewer and grill Ayu properly using BBQ grills. The experience is offered four times during the day, with up to 20 people per session. Registration is already closed. If the weather is bad, the event will be canceled. Updates will be posted on the official Gifu Prefecture website. This event is recommended for foreign residents interested in Japanese food culture.
