August 31, 2026
Miyazaki Prefecture began offering electricity generated by public power providers, such as hydropower and solar, as a gift for furusato nozei (hometown tax donation). This service is available to foreigners living in Japan.

On August 31, 2026, Miyazaki Prefecture started a new program offering electricity from public power plants as a gift for furusato nozei donations. This is the first program in Japan where electricity generated by hydropower and solar power from local plants is given as a return gift.

This service is open to all residents in Japan, including foreign nationals. Donations can be made through 17 approved furusato nozei portal sites from August 31, 2026. The electricity comes from multiple clean, renewable power sources in Miyazaki. For details on how to participate and the list of portal sites, please check the official information.
